Lisbon Destination Expert Artur Ventura is the kind of traveler who visits a new destination alone and ends up making or meeting new and old friends… and he’s always very keen to share his love for his city.
“I was born in Luanda, Angola, and my parents settled in Portugal when I was 2 years old. I came to Lisbon to study when I was 17 years old. And then I stayed, not only for work, but because I love this city. It’s always been the place I want to be.
How do I spend my time here?
I love getting into a book (I have an extensive collection!), lost somewhere in the city, but also, I like going to the movies and just wandering around. I surf and body board too as the sea is right nearby, and also go mountain biking.
That’s when I’m not reviewing papers for science journals, or doing my own research at the University of Lisbon. I also translate, and host visitors through Airbnb.
I’ve travelled quite a bit and love it! I’ve visited cities in Portugal and Angola, Spain, France, Italy, UK, Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Poland, Czech Republic, Vatican, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and the USA… Dubai and Minsk might be destinations this year.
Of all my travels the Grand Canyon had the biggest impact on me, during my route 66 road trip (including the gem that is Big Sur), through the west coast of the United States. The canyon is so big you lose sight of it. I was there before sunrise standing on the very edge of the cliff with the clouds beneath me. As they rose the sun revealed the grandeur of Nature’s creation.
That’s difficult to beat, but travel dreams now would be exploring the wilderness of Congo and Alaska, or reaching the top of Gangkhar Puensum, in Bhutan, the highest unclimbed mountain to this day. Or sailing around the world! I guess you can say that “…I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one” … As we’re dreaming, I’d also choose to visit the Mamanuca Islands, Palau and the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park.
Welcoming guests is a host of knowledge, characteristics, values, skills, etc. I put myself in visitor’s shoes when advising them and ask myself: how could I have the best experience ever in this city? All of a sudden, you start getting ideas and realize what’s really important for them, and as such for you too. I can’t wait for you to be one of them so feel free to contact me whenever you like!”
Artur speaks native Portuguese, Spanish, English, French, and understands written and spoken Italian.

“We flew like birds in Madrid with the teleferico across the casa del campo, gliding just above the houses and trees. Wonderful day!”

“My husband and I spent a week in Cape Town last march. Amber was my contact at Cmycities and I must say she was great helping us make our stay the most enjoyable possible! Amber is easy to get in touch with and is extremely reactive. She gave us tailor-made advices, as I had been in Cape Town only once, years ago (loved Green Market Square and the Truth Coffee).
I particularly appreciated her good tips (we were looking for running spots and found great ones at the Sea Point Waterfront) and addresses that no guide tour would have given me (girl-to-girl best spots like shopping in the Watershed) but also lots of groovy attractions for the two of us. “

“I had a wonderful last minute week-end in London two months ago… Cmycities London helped me find a hotel, select a musical and recommended the Saatchi Gallery, which was really for me an amazing experience. I can only recommend Marie-Pascale, for the personal touch I am always looking for when I travel… and I can’t wait to travel again with Cmycities! “

“We had the most incredible experience in Paris a few weeks ago! The trip was a surprise long weekend for our 5 year-old daughter birthday and it was just perfect! Her eyes are still sparkling, maybe from seeing the Eiffel Tower?! We managed to keep a day out at Disneyland as a surprise. It’s a family trip we’ll never forget! “

“I only had a short stay in Sao Paulo but I was lucky to have Andre to show me around and point me in the right direction. He knows all the good spots and fun areas, and you can definitely tell how much he loves his city! I can’t wait to go back and explore more of this incredible city!
I highly recommend getting in touch with him before your stay!
Thanks again Andre :)”
