Beautiful Sunset in Lacanau

If you are into surf,  this is just for you! Each year in Lacanau – right next to Bordeaux takes place the Lacanau Pro Surfing Competition and this year it will start on August, 12th.

France’s Atlantic coast is very charming and Lacanau where this event takes place is a very famous resort town for surfing: large beach, beautiful waves and many surf schools.

What is Lacanau Pro?

For 8 days, men and women coming from all over the world participate to this international surfing competition. Lacanau Pro was created in 1979 and is one of the oldest competition in Europe! Some of the world’s best surfers come to compete; Tom Curren won in 1986 and in 1990, Martin Potter in 1989, Kelly Slater in 1994 or Gabriel Medina in 2011.

Personally, I just love sitting on the beach and watching them! I also like all the free activities that are organised around the event: Yoga, Skateboarding, Rollerblading, Fitness and Zumba, Entertainment, Bodega, Tapas, some DJ sets and Live Bands… All a great opportunity to have fun and enjoy the sea and the sun! You can check Lacanau Surf Pro official page on Facebook for updated info.

Where is Lacanau and why it’s a great place to visit?

You should know Lacanau is VERY close to Bordeaux –  about 50 minutes by car or by bus so it would be a shame not to make the trip – even for a day!

Moreover, it’s a top surfing destination as I said, but it’s also a great base to explore the area if you are thinking of staying a few days:  go visit the Bassin d’Arcachon for instance to discover its lovely villages of oystermen and fishermen; take a full-day bike trip in Les Landes, one of the largest forest in Europe; set out from Arcachon in a traditional pinasse boat for an excursion to Cap Ferret; if travelling with kids, spend some time at the huge aquatic park Aqualiday; go fishing and if you like nature and walking go and observe wildlife in one of the reserves, such as migratory birds, hinds, squirrels…
