If you want a Polaroid camera, Hong Kong Destination Expert Catherine Hoang-Quetant knows just the vintage shops you need to go to for a good one! She chose to settle down there because of its similarities with Europe. We’ll let her tell you what she likes about it.
“Hong Kong is very different from where I grew up in France. I chose to live in Hong Kong after spending two years in Ho Cho Minh City, and before that a year in New Delhi in India, where I met my husband. A job brought me here, but I was looking for a city that had a similar lifestyle to Europe.
And I found it here. You have all the advantages of both Asia and Europe in one place. There’s a real mix of cuisine, all the best food from around the world. The MTR public transport is clean and efficient. You can live like a Westerner if you want to, but it’s easy to switch to be like a local. I live on the Kowloon side where there aren’t so many foreigners—it’s less pretentious!
Of course going out is wonderful here, with so many fabulous restaurants to choose from. Wine is one of my passions too, and I enjoy extending my knowledge of the world of wine when I’m not organizing staff for major international events.
My kind of travel is taking a road trip once a year, for Christmas. We’ve been to Vancouver, the southern island of New Zealand, Australia, and we’re planning to go to California next.
People may think that Hong Kong is just a big city but there’s a lot more to it than that. If you just follow a guidebook you’ll visit shopping malls and go to restaurants. Whereas if you know someone local you won’t miss out on the other things there are to do. It may sound unbelievable but it’s even possible to go hiking and mountain biking here!
I’ll be able to tell you about all the things the Hong Kong people like to do, and where and how they spend their time. Hiking is almost a national sport in fact! And if like me you love photography, I can tell you about great spots to take photos, the best shops for equipment…
And if you want to know where to buy a great vintage Polaroid camera, you know where to come!

“We flew like birds in Madrid with the teleferico across the casa del campo, gliding just above the houses and trees. Wonderful day!”

“My husband and I spent a week in Cape Town last march. Amber was my contact at Cmycities and I must say she was great helping us make our stay the most enjoyable possible! Amber is easy to get in touch with and is extremely reactive. She gave us tailor-made advices, as I had been in Cape Town only once, years ago (loved Green Market Square and the Truth Coffee).
I particularly appreciated her good tips (we were looking for running spots and found great ones at the Sea Point Waterfront) and addresses that no guide tour would have given me (girl-to-girl best spots like shopping in the Watershed) but also lots of groovy attractions for the two of us. “

“I had a wonderful last minute week-end in London two months ago… Cmycities London helped me find a hotel, select a musical and recommended the Saatchi Gallery, which was really for me an amazing experience. I can only recommend Marie-Pascale, for the personal touch I am always looking for when I travel… and I can’t wait to travel again with Cmycities! “

“We had the most incredible experience in Paris a few weeks ago! The trip was a surprise long weekend for our 5 year-old daughter birthday and it was just perfect! Her eyes are still sparkling, maybe from seeing the Eiffel Tower?! We managed to keep a day out at Disneyland as a surprise. It’s a family trip we’ll never forget! “

“I only had a short stay in Sao Paulo but I was lucky to have Andre to show me around and point me in the right direction. He knows all the good spots and fun areas, and you can definitely tell how much he loves his city! I can’t wait to go back and explore more of this incredible city!
I highly recommend getting in touch with him before your stay!
Thanks again Andre :)”
